Acne rosacea causes red, inflamed skin on the face, either in the form of an all-over flush or as scattered pustules and pimples. It can be both unsightly and uncomfortable. Rosacea has no definitive cure, but home remedies can offer symptomatic relief. Some of the most effective options are homemade masks made from simple kitchen ingredients.
Soothing Oatmeal
Oatmeal's anti-inflammatory properties make it an effective base for a do-it-yourself anti-rosacea facial. Cook your oatmeal first -- instant oatmeal is fine here. Let it cool and then combine it with astringents such as vinegar and green tea or with honey, yogurt or coconut oil.
Cooling Cucumber
Cucumber is cooling, soothing and full of moisture. You can place thin slices of cucumber directly on reddened skin or you can prepare a simple mask to slather on your face. Combine a cup of cooked oatmeal with grated or pulverized cucumber -- use a blender or food processor to combine roughly chopped cucumber with the oatmeal, and the cucumber will end up the correct mashed texture. You can also combine cucumber and thick yogurt for a DIY mask; the yogurt is also both cooling and moisturizing.
Healing Honey
Honey is supposed to have benefits for your skin, especially if you have rosacea. Manuka honey in particular is recommended by Cosmopolitan UK as a topical treatment for rosacea. Manuka honey comes from New Zealand, produced from a flower native to its islands. It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Use honey alone as a facial mask or combine it with ingredients such as oatmeal or yogurt.
Turmeric
Turmeric has a long history of being used medicinally for all sorts of ailments. It's a strong anti-inflammatory, which makes it particularly effective as a rosacea treatment. Combine with yogurt, avocado or coconut oil for an easy yet powerful homemade facial mask. Be careful, however, as turmeric is also a dye and can stain your clothing and even your skin; leave the mask in place no longer than 15 minutes, and rinse it off thoroughly.
