Hair can become dull and dry because of buildup and residue from shampoo, conditioner and hair styling products that are used throughout the day. This residue sits on the outer layer of hair, which is called the cuticle. A vinegar hair rinse made with white or apple cider vinegar will leave hair soft, shiny and moisturized, as vinegar has clarifying properties that remove residue on the hair and close the cuticle.

Apply the vinegar and water mixture to your hair after conditioning. Allow it to sit for a few minutes. Do not get the vinegar rinse into your eyes. This can cause burning, discomfort and irritation.

Rinse the mixture out and then towel dry your hair. This will leave your hair feeling soft and looking shiny.

Tip

Steep herbs and add them to your vinegar hair rinse if you wish. Chamomile, calendula, nettle and plantain are all herbs that can add moisture and condition dry hair.

Warning

Avoid using a vinegar rinse more than once every one to two weeks. Too much vinegar can have the opposite effect and dry out your hair even more.
