While you may or may not use it in the kitchen, grape seed oil actually has plenty of uses as a treatment for your hair. Like olive oil and coconut oil, grape seed oil is an effective natural hair moisturizer and conditioner. However, grape seed oil surpasses its counterparts in its ability to address problems such as weakened hair, hair loss, and dandruff. Regular use of grape seed oil as a supplement to your regular hair-care products will leave you with stronger, healthier, more attractive hair.
Moisturizing and Conditioning
Grape seed oil is ideal for moisturizing and conditioning dry hair because it is lighter than olive oil or coconut oil and won't leave your hair feeling greasy. It is also odorless, so it won't leave a lingering scent. Grape seed oil helps to lock in moisture and prevent frizz, split ends, and brittle hair. Try coating your hair in grape seed oil and leaving it in for ten minutes, then rinsing it out with cold water for an easy deep-conditioning treatment.
Reducing Dandruff and Dermatitis
Dandruff and other dermatological conditions caused by a dry, flaky scalp can be treated with grape seed oil, which is full of emollients and nutrients that can help nurture the growth of healthy skin cells. Try rubbing grape seed oil into the scalp in a circular motion, loosening the skin while allowing the oil to be absorbed, as well as promoting blood flow.
Reducing Hair Loss
Grape seed oil, which is extracted from cold-pressed grape seeds, contains antioxidants that may help to block the production of DHT, a hormone that causes hair loss. Grape seed oil can also be used as a carrier for essential oils that promote relaxation of the hair follicles, preventing hair loss caused by cortisol, a hormone released when you're stressed. Try mixing a few teaspoons of grape seed oil with a drop or two of jojoba oil and rubbing it into your scalp to treat hair loss.
Strengthening
Grape seed oil contains Vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps to build tissue, and lineolic acid, a fatty acid which promotes hair and skin growth. If your hair is brittle or weak, treating it with grape seed oil can help to restore its strength and shine. Try covering your hair and massaging your scalp with heated grape seed oil. Wrap a towel around your head overnight, and wash it out in the morning for glossier, healthier hair.
