Getting a facial is a real treat, but you don't need to shell out cash at a salon when you're in the mood for pampering. With just a few common kitchen items, you can make a luxurious face cream that costs a fraction of an expensive spa treatment. Best of all, this cream contains all-natural coconut oil and nothing artificial, so it won't irritate your skin.
Add 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of shea butter to a clean glass jar.
Pour 2 tablespoons of grated or finely chopped beeswax into the jar.
Mix in 1/4 cup oil, such as almond, grapeseed, jojoba or extra-virgin olive oil. Some oils have strong scents, so choose the one you like best.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of vitamin E oil. Vitamin E gives your cream extra antioxidants.
Blend in 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of grapefruit seed extract. The grapefruit helps keep bacteria and germs at bay.
Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for fragrance, if desired. Lavender, rosemary, rose and citrus scents are just a few choices.
Fill a large pot halfway with water, then place the jar in the center of the pot. Set the pot on a stove and bring the water to a simmer.
Stir the ingredients as they start to melt. Continue stirring until all the ingredients are fully combined. Add a a small amount of distilled water if the mixture is too thick, then stir it in.
Remove the jar from the pot. Set it aside and let the cream mixture cool and harden.
Put a lid on the jar and store the cream in a cool place.
Tip
Use a spoon, not your fingers, to scoop the cream out of the jar. This cuts down on bacterial contamination.
Warning
If you must add water to your cream, always use distilled, not tap water. Tap water often contains impurities and bacteria.
