If your skin is starting to show signs of aging, you might be wondering if there are any natural treatments you can do at home to help remove dark spots from your face.

Sure, there are expensive spa treatments and in-office procedures you can have done in order to eliminate your troublesome dark spots, but if you're looking to start with a basic home treatment, there are several simple and natural homemade remedies that can help reduce the appearance of spots and other blemishes on your face.

Lemon Juice Spot Treatment

Lemons have been used for years as an ingredient in facial products because of its high levels of vitamin C, which can help lighten dark spots on your skin.

If you have lemons in your fridge, you can try a lemon juice spot treatment on your dark spots. Start by rolling one lemon on your kitchen counter for a few seconds, applying slight pressure with your hands to release the juice from the membranes.

Next, slice the lemon in half crosswise, and squeeze the juice through a strainer or cheesecloth into a cup or bowl. Then, dip a cotton swab into the bowl and apply a few drops of lemon juice to the spots you want to remove. Finally, let the lemon juice dry, then rinse your face with cool water.

Repeat this treatment each morning and evening until the spots fade. Beware that the lemon juice makes your skin sensitive to sunlight, so you need to use sunscreen or reduce your exposure to sunlight while using this treatment.

Lemon Juice Scrub

Sugar and lemon juice mixed together makes a great at-home skin treatment. Start by cutting a fresh lemon in half. Remove the seeds carefully with your fingers or a fork and discard them.

Next, put 1/2 tsp. of sugar into a small bowl or cup and dip the cut edge of your lemon into the sugar. Rub the lemon with sugar on each spot on your face to exfoliate dead skin that surrounds your dark spots. Finally, clean your face when the sugar-lemon mixture dries. Repeat weekly until your spots are less visible.

Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E oil has been used by dermatologist and aestheticians for years as a treatment for the skin. Since Vitamin E is considered an antioxidant, the oil helps target free radicals that can cause damage to your skin.

You can buy Vitamin E oil in the store or from a spa or dermatologists office as part of a facial treatment. It can be used by itself or combined with other ingredients that help reduce dark spots on your skin.

If you buy Vitamin E oil in a bottle, all you have to do is put a small amount on your finger and gently massage into the areas of your face that have dark spots. This can be done nightly before you go to bed.

If you have Vitamin E capsules, you will need to pierce the outside of the capsule with a pin or small scissors and squeeze the oil onto your finger before you rub it into your skin.

Aloe Vera Gel

If you've ever experienced a sunburn, there's a good chance you've used aloe vera to soothe and calm the irritation. Since aloe vera is known for its healing properties, aloe is commonly used as a treatment for dark spots on your skin.

You can apply aloe vera gel directly on the dark spots. Once you have the gel on your face, use a gentle massaging motion with your fingers to work it into your skin. Massage the area for at least two minutes. You can repeat this home treatment daily until the spots fade.

Other Tips to Reduce Dark Spots

If lemons are not your thing, you can also use limes as an ingredient in the spot treatment or scrub. Other home remedies for reducing dark spots from your skin include potato slices, buttermilk, apple cider vinegar, and papaya.

Home remedies typically take more time than cosmetic fade creams, so expect slow improvement. Always check with a health professional about face spots that do not respond to simple home remedies.
