Making homemade vitamin C serum for your face is as simple as throwing together your morning smoothie. All it takes is a quick trip to the local health foods store or pharmacy and a few minutes of preparation. Fresh and effective, you can reap the same benefits of branded vitamin C serums at a tenth of the cost. According to the Indian Dermatology Online Journal, the topical benefits of vitamin C are plentiful. Vitamin C is safe and naturally prevents photoaging, treats hyperpigmentation, promotes tissue healing, stimulates collagen production and wards off free radicals.

Tip

For a smoother formula, use vitamin C crystals in lieu of powder along with aloe vera gel in lieu of vegetable glycerin.

Use the dropper to apply two drops into the palm of your hand, rub your hands together and smooth the serum all over your face, neck and chest, after cleansing and toning your face morning and night. Thereafter, apply moisturizer along with sunscreen in the morning, as vitamin C increases your skin's sensitivity to the sun.

Warning

Do not use oxidized vitamin C serum, as it may be damaging to skin. You can tell when it has oxidized, or gone bad, as it will become discolored. Only use a dark-colored dropper bottle, as it prevents rapid oxidization of the vitamin C serum, and create a new batch at least once a week for maximum effectiveness.
