Waxy buildup and an itchy scalp may result from an overuse of hair products or a condition such as seborrheic dermatitis. Choose from several natural treatment options to help eliminate the problem. If natural treatments aren't successful, consult a dermatologist to diagnose and treat the underlying condition.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe has been used for hundreds of years to treat various skin conditions, including soothing an itchy scalp. The gel kills fungi and bacteria that can cause itching and waxiness. Its amino acids help to form healthy tissue. After shampooing with warm water, massage 1 tablespoon of pure aloe gel into your scalp. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it out.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil's antiseptic properties cleanse and soothe the scalp, while eliminating flakes and unsightly buildup. Add 10 to 20 drops of the essential oil to your favorite shampoo and use it every one to two days. Or massage several drops of oil directly into your scalp to unblock clogged follicles.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Use apple cider vinegar as a final hair rinse to help balance your scalp's acidity, control flaking and relieve itching. Mix equal parts filtered water and vinegar with chamomile or rosemary oil in a spray bottle. Spray it onto clean hair, massage it into your scalp and rinse it out.
