The tailbone, also known as the coccyx, can be bruised or broken by falling down on your back or landing on something rear end first. Unfortunately, pain from broken tailbones can last for months and even years. For bruised tailbones, this home remedy may reduce the healing time.
Healing Massage
With the ice pack, massage the muscles around the tailbone. You or a partner can perform the massage.
Break for 10 minutes.
With the heat pack, resume massaging.
Break for at least 15 minutes, and if another massage is necessary, use the cold pack.
Tip
Avoid activity that may increase discomfort. Hot showers may alleviate pain, and sitting on a "donut" may help. Keep a pain diary. If the pain intensifies, contact your doctor. Pain and/or anti-inflammatory medication may be prescribed.
