When swallowing huge vitamin pills, you may be wondering what you should drink to help your body absorb these nutrients. You do need to drink some type of beverage in order to get the vitamins down; otherwise, you may develop acid reflux or possibly have a hard time keeping them down. When taking vitamins of any kind, it's best to avoid taking them with soda, which can affect your body's ability to absorb vitamins because sodas contain high amounts of sugar, caffeine and aspartame.
Pure Water
Take vitamins with pure water. You should drink eight to 10 glasses of purified water each day and eat healthy. Your body needs a certain amount of water in order to do the job of cleansing effectively. If you exercise or spend time in the sun, you may need even more than the standard eight glasses. When your body is dehydrated, vitamins can be wasted because water carries vitamins directly to the cells where they are needed. Water helps cleanse the body of toxins and delivers nutrition.
If you have a hard time drinking plain water, try adding a few slices of lemon to your water or sweeten your water with a natural sweetener such as stevia, a plant-based sweetener available in most stores.
Vegetable Juice
Another sensible option is to take your vitamins with vegetable juice. You can juice your own vegetables if you have a juicer. Carrots, apples and beets make a healthy combination, and you will benefit from a powerhouse of vitamins just from the vegetables themselves. If you don't have a juicer, you can purchase vegetable juice such as low-sodium V8 at the store. However, be aware that not all store-bought juices are healthy; some brands contain added sweeteners. Look for 100% vegetable juice.
Fruit Smoothie
A fruit smoothie is another excellent beverage to take your vitamins with. A strawberry banana smoothie is a healthy, thick drink. This is a very satisfying beverage that is loaded with antioxidants. You can make your fruit smoothie extra healthy by adding cod liver oil and flax seeds. When taking vitamins with fruit smoothies or other drinks, sip some of the beverage first and take one vitamin pill at a time. It is easier to gradually take the vitamins as you drink rather than trying to swallow an entire handful of vitamins.
